The many faces of Lara Croft in the Legacy of Atlantis trailers

Seeing as the game is in active development, the only reason I can fathom as to why she looks so different in most shots is because the devs are still working on the game, and perhaps trying to gauge which face fits best with the fans.

To my eyes, the faces in images 2 and 3 are clearly from a character model unique to the others, and is my least favorite. There are some shots where her face looks "longer" than in other shots, and despite the popular opinion, I think her face in image 7 is the most egregious of this, and it's not my favorite look of hers (despite the confidence portrayed, that I love).

My personal favorite look for Lara comes from the last 3 images on the slide, even though in the very last image she looks almost like a completely different person than the rest.

I do not subscribe to the "it's just the lighting" schtick that some people have been parroting on this sub. I think the devs are playing around with multiple character models and will put in the one they think is best once the game comes out.

Although, even though some of her looks are great, I cannot help but feel like a lot of the fan-made character models/faces that some of you talented people post on this sub are far and beyond what I would have hoped for in a new official Tomb Raider game. I think the fans are very capable of taking the classic look of Lara and really making a character model that embodies that in modern technology, you guys are the absolute best.

Let me know what you guys think and give us your honest opinions. Obviously, this discussion is meant for people who like to partake in this kind of discussion. If you don't care about these kinds of discussions, or if Lara's appearance does not matter to you, do not comment.

PS. Whatever she looks like will never be a decision-maker on whether or not I play the game. The only reason I bring this up as a topic of discussion is because Lara is an iconic character with a very specific iconic look, and I question the idea of whether the devs managed to capture that. Making an attractive woman is not simply enough, she's gotta embody the character of Lara Croft in her face primarily. At the end of the day, the physical appearance of fictional characters is almost half of their entire characterization. I would do the same for Batman, or James Bond, for example.

To be honest I haven’t even read the article yet as I got stuck looking at Natla but if this is real I’m actually really liking this rendition the more I see, even the hair lol. - She was added to Fortnite in March 2021 as part of the Chapter 2 Season 6 Battle Pass.

- Lara had three styles: the first being her 2013 version, the second a reimagining of her retro look, the third even more retro with a less rendered look, and the fourth a golden style that you could only get by completing missions in creative mode, which has now become rare.

- Because she was part of the Battle Pass, unfortunately, she cannot return to the item shop. Luckily, a customizable Lara skin inspired by the 2000s was released for the item shop, so people who wanted her now have a chance.

The Ai conversation

I'm sorry that this is so long, I often struggle to streamline my thoughts so bear with me.

I'm just as disappointed as many of you are with the announcement that Legacy of Atlantis utilizes Ai. But I also do want to get some things off of my chest regarding some of the discussions and conversations I've been hearing and seeing. I also want to preface this with a quote from the CD statement "some early exploration and temporary development content.”. Ai shouldn't have been used at all or even in this context. But the context does matter. Many posts and assumptions are that Ai is being used in final products, gameplay and models. That is not the case, the unfortunate ai use was being used early on in the development likely to create visuals and map out areas before committing to designs and environments. Again, should this be a thing? No. But I just want to give some context so it's better understood where the ai was actually used.

Not every inconsistency/design difference is Ai. I'm surprised I have to say this. Human error exists and is very real, many photos and examples that are being used as "proof of Ai" are just minor development errors. The clips seen in trailers use development footage while the game is still being worked on and fine tuned, there will be minor differences in some aespects. This is normal, this is how this typically goes.

As for her face "changing"... What? Lighting, angles and expressions change how faces look. Yes! In real life too! I struggle to see how slight differences in appearance has anything to do with Ai. And yes, her face will change slightly, this happened with the previous games too. This game is in development, the photos and clips you see are taken during development, they will change her appearance and minor details until they settle on a design they feel is just right. This is very normal.

There has been behind the scenes footage released, I highly recommend that you check it out! You can see the real human teams, working on development, motion capture filming, rendering, world building and designing. Real people have put their blood sweat and tears into this game, and it's insulting to see people assume that every minor and nonexistent bug is proof of Ai.

I understand that Ai has no space in creative fields, and I agree 100%. Hell, I can't even go to my collage classes without my teachers handing me Ai written assignments. It's horrible, I understand the frustration very well. But let's please stop nitpicking every detail and over analyzing every clip we see for the most minor errors, only to assume it's Ai. Doing this doesn't bring forward any conversation of value, it just gives the impression that you don't really understand how game development works at all. Which is fine! Many of us don't. So, lets not be afraid to learn more about the process, or even just spend your energy supporting the developers and creatives that put so much passion into creating a game for us to enjoy, despite the corporate greed they have to actively battle. Their work does not deserve to be discredited, this Ai finger pointing is only doing just that. Many things you all are highlighting are very normal aespects of development and 3d modeling.

I promise you, that the trailer, photos, and models are not ai generated. Why on earth would they do motion capture if every model is just ai? This is the logic I've been seeing recently and I'm tired of face palming, my face hurts! I also promise you, that if ai was truly being used to the extent some of you think it is being used, you would not have a working game. Actually you probably wouldn't have a game at all. Games only work and can function with human effort, human skill and human passion. I'm almost certain that 98% of the final product is human. And I'm being generous with the 2%. Ai cannot make a game. People make games. Lets have meaningful and productive conversations if we want to talk about ai. If you haven't watched it, I reccomend the IGN behind the scenes video. It will help you remember that humans are the soul behind this game.

Unable to launch the Anniversary game

I bought the Tomb raider anniversary game on steam and whenever I launch it the first cutscene plays and then my screen goes black and the game kicks me. I have tried to find ways to fix it but all the tutorials were about the remake so I guess thats the reason why they didn’t work. Can anyone help me out because steam support itself couldnt.

(Note: when I tried to find the game file to run it as an administrator I couldn’t find it, only a big batch of ‘big files’ under the name of the game.)
