If you're not familiar with the practice, Google it.

I recently accepted a connection request which at first seemed pretty normal, but early on I started realising that the person in question was using a fake identity profile and trying to lure me into communicating outside of the platform. Eventually the person's profile was deleted (probably reported by others who were also targeted). Fortunately no harm was done to me personally, but a one can never be too vigilant these days.

Cybercriminals have expanded beyond traditional apps and into niche fitness communities. They exploit the inherently trusting nature of the global fitness community to find affluent targets.

In the absence of Strava picking up on these fake profiles and notifying their users, I thought it would be useful to communicate this more broadly and make everyone aware. Be a little more careful in who you're accepting to be connections with. I know this is obvious, but with all the different virtual training apps, sometimes it's too easy to assume that people got your details from one of these platforms, and it's ok to be connected with strangers from another part of the world.

Stay safe out there.

   submitted by /u/Lisbon_Eagle
[link] [comments]

Strava accounts actively being targeted by scammers

Dear r/Strava community,

I'm curious to hear your thoughts on a Strava athlete from my area. (Reportedly around 50 years old.)

For years, many riders in the local Swiss cycling community have questioned some of the performances on this account. What makes it unusual is that despite posting extremely strong results and appearing on basically all leaderboards, nobody seems to know who this person is or has ridden with him. The account also has Flybys disabled, hidden start times, and, more recently, hidden power data.

One example that raised eyebrows was a segment effort showing over 1,050 watts for more than a minute. On another local climb (roughly 3 km at 6%), the leaderboard is packed with WorldTour professionals and elite riders, yet this athlete appears among them with a reported average of 526 watts for 4:33. (See Picture)

What makes this particularly unusual is that this is not an isolated case. Similar performances can be found across countless local segments, where this athlete consistently ranks alongside or ahead of elite-level riders and professional cyclists.

Of course, unusual numbers alone don't prove anything. There could be explanations that I'm unaware of, and I don't want to accuse someone without evidence. However, these performances have been discussed locally for years, and many riders remain skeptical.

I recently questioned some of the results and was subsequently blocked, so I can no longer view much of the profile.

What do you think? Do these numbers seem plausible to you, or do they raise concerns?

Edit: Shortly after I started discussing this account publicly, the athlete's profile appears to have been set to private.

Edit 2: Needed to remove the picture and the linked account.

   submitted by /u/Maction1
[link] [comments]

This rider has been puzzling our local cycling community for years

   submitted by /u/Aromatic_Debt_6287
[link] [comments]

mtfuji hc参加してきた

Suddenly location name before the activity name is not showing up . I’ve also enjoyed building out my Strava heatmap and gradually street-mapping different parts of my neighbourhood, but Strava art feels like a nice middle ground between exploring and still getting some easy miles in. I’ve also found following the turn by turn navigation to be a nice distraction to focus on when the run is feeling long

I’ve found the route-planning website Routedoodle pretty useful for creating routes. is crowded of people who clearly did it in Zwift.

This is obvious because

-they all did it as part of the same identical ride, which is equal to the "Trofeo Bologna Race" in Swift, which uses the course of the 2019 Giro prologue TT.

-the course they all do is not feasible with traffic, because it's on one-way roads, and they also do it both ways, something that in the Giro wasn't possible

-some rides have "Zwift Trofeo Bologna Race" in their name

So, how do I flag their rides to Strava? "made on a virtual platform" isn't available as a choice, probably because it wasn't intentional that Swift would leak their rides to Strava this way, like they were actual rides.

Side question: this is the first time I see a Swift time on a physical segment. Is it something that happens often? All these times were logged in a specific period of time in 2020, so I guess that this was just a temporary bug.

   submitted by /u/sireatalot
[link] [comments]

Segment full of Swift performances, how do I flag them?

Hello, I have previously posted this ( how a petty woman keeps flagging my ride because I took a QOM from her). Does anyone else have strong opinions about this?

   submitted by /u/deeplybrown
[link] [comments]

Add more contrast to dirt map rendering

I have never seen a trail with this dotted red and crossed circles. I made a simple one that finds the fastest vertical 1000m within an activity (requires .gpx upload, no Strava integration) - or you can also specify other elevation numbers (e.g. find your fastest 100m climb). It shows the fastest segment on the map, including a highlighting the elevation profile. Also provides a summary picture to add to your activity :)

https://seanstephensen.github.io/fastest-vk/

Disclaimers:

ChatGPT wrote all the code - I just wanted a functional tool, I don't care how it's made

This is technically my tool that I guess I'm "advertising" here, but I gain nothing from anyone using this. It's just a script on a github page. There are no ads or anything. I moreso hope that other people will find utility in this, if they want :)

I make no claims about data security. I assume .gpx files are just analyzed and forgotten. Source code is all there if you want to review. Upload your own files (or others'!) at your own discretion.

   submitted by /u/SeaMicSte
[link] [comments]

Vertical Kilometer analysis tool
