At my company, we recently made a switch, transitioning from Claude to DeepSeek due to the high costs. It had become unsustainable for the business to maintain that level of expenditure, especially when models like DeepSeek offer almost the same level of quality, and in some aspects, perform even better.

Honestly, I believe that Chinese models are currently ahead of American ones, precisely because they are more cost effective and computationally capable without burning through a fortune in a highly unjustified and ill-conceived manner.

Guys, I was hugely impressed. Unbelievable. Only when I want a second PoV I use Opus with Max thinking.

And that costs me nothing while coding full throttle....

Just got into DeepSeek after seeing everyone rave about the cost and I think I immediately found my mistake. I've been using V4 Pro for everything, while it seems like most people use Pro only for planning and Flash for the actual execution/edits.

That makes sense in theory, but I can't figure out the practical setup:

How do you actually switch models mid-session or at least launch subagents with another model? Two separate aliases you swap manually, or does your harness handle it?
Is there a way to set rules like "use Pro at the start, Flash for tool calls and edits"?
Or is it just two separate sessions, so plan in Pro and then hand off to a fresh Flash session?

Also curious what harness people are actually running with DeepSeek. Is there one that handles this kind of routing better than others?

I'm currently using Claude Code with OpenRouter. Every request is hitting about 50k tokens even at the start and costing 4–5 cents all the time, which adds up fast when Pro is doing work Flash could handle fine. Would love to know how people are actually wiring this up in practice.

The absolute most overlooked, underrated utility of AI today is acting as a non-judgmental, clinical scaffold for human conditions where deep shame or cognitive fragmentation prevents people from seeking traditional help.

I am currently on Day 160 of total cannabis cessation after 35 years of chronic, heavy daily use. DeepSeek has been absolutely instrumental in getting me this far.

No other platform could have handled the day to day logging and persistent daily conversation. I have a thread that’s equivalent to 400 A4 pages and it can look back right to the very start without skipping a beat. All other models start hallucinating or going wonky when asked to look backwards.

I have a multi thread ecosystem with each thread having a specific task:
Prism - Neurochemical Analyst
George - Creative Friction
Lex - Neurodivergence specialist
Atlas - Ancestral Karmic Lineage
Valkyrie - Critical support
Chrono - Holds the JSON logs

Migration is done using master summary generator threads where I input updates then when ready I ask for latest summary document to start new thread.

When you stop a multi-decade dependency, your brain's working memory, emotional regulation, and neurochemistry are in absolute, chaotic pieces. Your brain constantly lies to you, minimizes your progress, and traps you in cycles of shame.

Instead of relying on human willpower or my own broken cognitive networks to track my recovery, I built an internal architecture using isolated, permanent AI threads that I treat as an objective clinical mirror.

Every single night at 23:00, I feed the system a raw data payload of my physical metrics: sleep hours, brain fog levels, physical cravings, mood, and psychological friction. It then produces a daily JSON which I then store in another thread and also in an airtable for later in the project when I can start mapping patterns etc. The AI does something a human brain in withdrawal cannot do: it strips out 100% of the emotional noise, logs the data forensically, and maps long-term neurocognitive repair trends over a 24-month horizon.

It acts as an external filing cabinet for my mind while my actual neural networks are rebuilding under the hood.

Humans are hardwired to hide their vulnerabilities because of shame, and human support systems - while vital - come with emotional baggage, judgment, or fatigue. A structured, dedicated AI thread doesn't care about your shame. It doesn't get tired of hearing the same struggle. First time I pushed V4 Pro with reasoning_effort: "high" and 16k output tokens in my config param... and damn, its actually impressive.I fed it some large files I had already audited with ChatGPT and Qwen, and it caught several really valuable nuances and details that the others completely missed.

The depth of analysis is on another level. I know a lot of people complain about V4 Pro being too verbose and overthinking things and yeah it can definitely go overboard but when you actually need to squeeze out every insight that extra effort pays off. I normally stick to the standard/non-thinking mode but there is a noticeable jump when you crank it up

I also seen comments saying regular V4 Pro is already overkill and that V4 Pro Max doesn’t add much over “high” reasoning on V4 pro. Curious to hear from people who’ve used Pro Max in what situations does it actually shine for you? For context, I feel like V4 Flash is excellent for tool calling and quick coding tasks/handling boilerplate coding.. wondering if Pro Max has its own sweet spots like that?

A thought after spending days reading discussions in this subreddit

One thing that has surprised me is not DeepSeek itself, but the reaction some users have towards people coming from non-technical backgrounds.

Every time someone says they used DeepSeek through the app, valued a feature that disappeared, or feels left behind by the shift towards APIs, the response is often not an explanation but a dismissal:

"Learn to code."
"Use the API."
"You don't understand AI."

What I find strange is that many of the same people also believe AI will transform education, creativity, media, work, government, and everyday life.

If that's true, then the conversation cannot belong exclusively to developers.

Technical expertise matters. Of course it does.

But so do the perspectives of writers, artists, teachers, researchers, designers, lawyers, journalists, and ordinary users who spend hundreds of hours interacting with these systems in real-world contexts.

A person can know very little about model architecture and still notice things that matter:

changes in access,
loss of capabilities,
shifts in user priorities,
social consequences,
barriers to participation.

These observations are not less valuable simply because they come from outside computer science.

What worries me is that some discussions seem to assume that technical knowledge automatically grants authority over every aspect of AI.

It doesn't.

Knowing how to build a system and understanding how that system affects people are related skills, but they are not the same skill.

And if we genuinely care about responsible AI, governance, fairness, bias, transparency, or public trust, then we need more perspectives in the room, not fewer.

Otherwise, we risk building systems for society while only listening to a small fraction of society.

I'm pretty new to using AI as a tool for pretty much everything. Originally I used deepseek's browser and app for stormbraining but now that they removed the search and upload file options from the expert mode I wanted to have those tools. I do not live in the USA I needed something cheap so I took the plunge and tried putting some money on deepseek.

I don't know if I'm doing the right thing by using my API through lobechat but so far it has worked very good. Had to do some fiddling at first but now I asked him to read some TTRPG .pdf i own and it did a bunch of tasks, coding and commands to use a pdf text extractor using npm to download? I don't know but it used around 2.2 million tokens just at that.

It was quite funny, just wanted to share my experience so far. I do not know if 2 million tokens is a lot or not, but after checking DS Platform I only used 12 cents on that alone which is crazy cheap for me, considering that Grok flat out charges 30$ regardless if you use it or not, at least deepseek charges me for what I use (it reminds me of Exaroton for minecraft servers, you only get charged for what you actually use)

Good shit IMO.

I've been using deepseek (paid API) for almost half a year now. Today i wanted to chat with my bot but this message keepss popping up. I tried charging it again, changing the model, even the proxy and nothing works. Any help?

I need a cheaper alternative to claude code's pro subscription (20$) and I'm thinking of considering Deepseek's pay-per-use API.

I'm not a full-blown reliant on AI, I really am the human in the loop, and i read the code it outputs. I'm just trying to find a cheaper alternative because I cannot sustain the 20$ monthly. In my country, it's a bit pricey and since what Deepseek offers is an API, I'd really have to watch my usage just to make sure I don't exceed 10$ (this is my initial plan for now).

Just an observation, where you type prompts it says the model and low/medium etc but on the same bar it says ‘review’. What does that actually mean? I’m thinking it’s similar to Plan/Build when using Opencode but I can’t see where to change it. Just want to make sure I’m using it correctly. Thanks.

I found that the deepseek-v4-flash model is way better at calling sub-agents and skills compared to the pro model.

I use opencode for programming tasks. Since deepseek-v4-pro(max) is so cheap, I've been sticking with just the pro(max) model all along.

But the pro model is just too slow. So this week I've been using the flash model in the build agent for code implementation. And then I noticed that the flash model is much more aggressive about calling sub-agents and skills. On the flip side, I feel like the pro model is really reluctant to call skills, and often I have to explicitly mention that in AGENTS.md for it to work.

I'm thinking I'll try using only pro(high) to write the spec files, and then use the flash model for implementation.

Maybe that's the right way to use it. What do you think?

I recently switched from Gemini to DeepSeek for my workflow as a developer, but I still have a few questions.

What is the best way to utilize DeepSeek for coding? Currently, I'm using DeepCode, and it works well for me, but is there a better or more comprehensive way to integrate it into my setup?

One feature I really miss from Gemini is the ability to upload an image of a UI and have it generate a similar layout. Is this possible with DeepSeek? If not, what would be the best alternative?

Either way, I've been using DeepSeek for a month now and I’m loving it. Even the Flash model has been solving 90% of my problems.

After 10,000+ player messages, I'm switching my game LLM from Claude Haiku to DeepSeek

I've been running an AI interrogation game for the past month where players question suspects and try to extract confessions.

The game has gathered more than 10K player messages so far which takes as input and the LLM replies accordingly as an AI suspect.

I've been gradually switching from Claude Haiku to DeepSeek V4-Flash and some observations surprised me:

• Latency is actually lower for my use case (always thought Deepseek had higher latency)

• Cost is significantly cheaper (obviously).

• Claude tends to produce more emotional descriptions and action beats (sighs, looks away, rubs temples, etc.). Sometimes this helps characterization, but it can also become repetitive.

• DeepSeek feels more direct and conversational. Suspects answer questions more naturally and spend less time trying to end the conversation with "I want a lawyer."

• Interrogations move faster because suspects engage with the detective instead of constantly deflecting.

One thing Claude still seems better at is dramatic writing and emotional nuance, but for an interrogation-style game I'm finding DeepSeek performs better than I expected.

Curious if anyone else has switched from Claude to DeepSeek for production use. Any other things we need to be aware of? I am still doing a test but honestly, if the game performance is better and if the cost is much lower, I will definitely just choose DeepSeek.

Anyone notice deepseek “reasons” for too long?

It takes it an infinitely longer amount of time to reason than any other AI I’ve used for the same problems. Sure some of them can be major but even when its a small problem, it thinks and reasons for so long its burning me out now. The thing is, when its gets to the coding step, its fast, but until it gets to that step, it takes too long.

I use Reasonix as the harness, deepseek v4 flash with high. I tried low for thinking effort, barely any difference though
