We bought our dream camper around a year ago; but decided we enjoy using it so much even for super short journeys and staying out for the night that it’s time we should get something bigger.

Any recommendations? Not sure whether to get a motorhome or a converted van again?

Basically want more head height and more space to move around freely :)

Best camper van for senior with bathroom?

I’m helping my dad find a camper van and could use some advice from you all.

He’s in his early 70s and wants something easy to drive and park. No big RV. He also wants a bathroom inside since he plans mostly weekend trips and a few longer summer drives. He also wants to have a bed, a small kitchen, and a bathroom so he can avoid public restrooms. He has knee issues so lots of climbing or crouching won’t work. He also wants something simple and easy to clean.

I’m kinda torn between pre-built vs custom, and between Transit, Sprinter, or Promaster. What do you think suits best for my dad’s needs?

Planning Ahead

One of the great things about being a teacher is I know my exact retirement date years before it happens. It also gives me plenty of time to plan what I want that retirement to be.

I've long known I'd want a camper van, something I can get in and get away, tour some national parks and maybe do some day hikes here and there. As the future (inches) closer, I think I want more of a plan and a chance to look into it. I alsi don't need to wait til the exact date, I have plenty of vacation options before then obviously. But...where do I look? What do I look for? These are the questions I have. So I'm asking you all.

I think my ideal van would be something small, probably sleep 2 (doesn't need to a big old comfortable bed, this isn't something I want to live in), perhaps a chance for a second place to sleep. (If I bring a buddy for a hiking trip so we don't need to cuddle up in a small shared space.)

I wouldn't need a shower because if I'm in it for multiple days, I'm not opposed to a hotel if I need to clean up and sleep well. Are there models that come with toilets? Sinks?

In terms of kitchens, I have no idea what the options are! Are there? Again, I'm not living out of this thing so simplistic is fine.

I'm assuming (hoping?) there are models that come with generators so when I am sleeping in it, there's an AC option?

So, if these are things I want, is a camper van the right way to look? If so, what models am I looking for? What would be the best? Should I tweak my expectations? Look at something else entirely? Finally, to those that trip like this, what do you recommend in terms of parking/booking spots?

Almost died because of a gas leakage in rental Campervan. What to do?

Long story short, there was a gas leakage in our campervan, I realized it right before we went to cook and fortunately we didn't blow up the campervan or die in our sleep.

anyways, the company got it checked out and it was indeed a gas leak.

Now wondering what the next steps would be, for now we got a replacement campervan immediately the day after, have a few more days in this one then returning it.

how do I make the most out of this situation in terms of compensation?

fairly traumatic experience, had to go to the hospital because of headache, nauseaus and metallic taste. all good now.

The location manager said this has never happened to them before, it's quite a big rental company in NZ/ AUS.

Hear me out; Im looking for a 40+ year old van/campervan to travel and live in and would like some suggestions

Context before im hit with the classic "cant have one that old"

-i live in ireland, here most vehicles here must go through a 'road worthiness test" (CVRT, NCT) every year or two. Unless said vehicle is more than 40 years old

-therefore id like a vehicle that i can drive legally around the world. So it needs to be at least 40 years old

-id like to be able to stealth camp. As much as i love the old Volkswagens they dont really work as stealth campers

-ill need to be able to stand up inside, as it would also be my home thats simply a must. Standing at 6 foot tall, id like to have at least that on the inside

Whatever i get, id more than likely rip it all out and build from scratch. Im pretty handy, the van would be completely de-rusted, and done up. Outside to look like a normal van.

Ive been looking for old ford transits, but hard to get in ireland. But Europe could always be a shout.

Or has anyone bought a camper in another country that may have it excluded from a yearly or 2 yearly 'road worthiness test'? Im able to get an address in nearly any European country between family and friends.

Any help appreciated

Hi all,

I'm trying to put together an electrical system myself to save a few quid. My budget is ~£1500 and I've managed to come in well under that with the equipment in the list below, which I thought was inclusive of everything I needed.

My wife and I are planning to rent a campervan for a 10-day road trip with the following itinerary:

Madrid → Toledo → Córdoba → Seville → Granada → Ronda → White Villages → Bolonia Beach → Zahara de los Atunes → Málaga

Neither of us has been to Europe before, and we've never traveled by campervan.

Do you think this is a good idea for first-time visitors? Do you have any advice or tips that could help us

We are starting the process of evaluating which van we want to start our van life journey in. Our plan is to rent different kinds and narrow down our requirements that way. Which three or four van types/ models/features would you recommend we experience in order to evaluate what we might be looking for as we buy one. Our plan is to buy a used van. We are in Northern California.

PS we used to rent on Outdoorsy but it has gotten so expensive. Does anyone know of an alternative site to rent camper vans through?

My husband and I are at an impasse.

Originally we planned to fly to northern Portugal and rent a campervan for two weeks. Our daughter will be 15 months by then. And she’s one of those toddlers that just needs to move, needs to be entertained, needs to feel free. We’re thinking this option is out of the question because we’d need to bring too much stuff, including her travel playpen, and therefore flying becomes more of a headache.

We have our own VW California which we could load up with all the gear we need and drive somewhere from Germany, but my husband is convinced it will be a nightmare in a small van with an overactive toddler. Who also unfortunately happens to be a very light sleeper.

Pre-baby we did a lot of roadtrip-style camping. We’re prepared to adjust to a more slow-paced style. I honestly thought that we’d already have several trips down by now. But she kind of rocked our socks off with her intense temperament and we haven’t been able to survive anything more than Airbnb stays.

I guess my question for is anyone else who has a high energy, on-the-go toddler like this. Were you able to enjoy camping trips? Or did it take until they were older for it to feel worth the effort?

Curious about this because people can make the same kind of trip, have the same kind of van, but get a completely different experience depending on where you do it. So what specifically made the difference? Roads, campsites, locals, freedom camping rules, fuel costs, weather or something else entirely?

First Campervan Trip in the Dolomites (July)

We’re a group of 5 from Portugal planning our first campervan trip in the Dolomites (July 19–26). We’ll be flying into Treviso and renting the van there.

We are completely new to campervan travel, so trying to get the basics right before we go.

Main questions:

Best apps/websites for finding legal overnight campervan spots in the Dolomites
Reliable way to find places to park overnight in peak season (July) without getting stuck or fined
Good strategy for planning overnight stops so we don’t end up driving around at night looking for spots
Any apps people actually use on the road
Best places / companies to rent a campervan around Treviso / Venice area (reliable and straightforward, not necessarily luxury, just functional and safe)

Any practical advice from people who have done this route would be really helpful.

2019 T6 4Motion ate her own propshaft!

Me and my campervan have just completed a 3000 mile journey from Oxford to Southern Turkey. The oil temp had been running high, so i took her to a reliable (modern) workshop for an oil change.

When they took the covers off they discovered the damage that you can see in the photos & video. Would have taken a month to source a replacement part there so i’ve flown back to the UK to get it.

My question is what could have caused this damage?? Could it be a problem with the clutch/haldex system that engages the part-time 4WD? Or rough driving by her previous owner?

I’d hate to replace the shaft then have it go again on my return journey.

Any advice or insight appreciated.

Swivel base for double seat?

Hi guys, just started my first conversion!

My Ford transit custom has a double passenger seat in the front and id love for it to swivel. Can you get swivel bases that do this? Is this the same idea as if it were a single seat? And is this something your regular old Joe (with a brain, tools and YouTube) can do themselves?
