Hello!

I plan to be visiting antwerp in September to attend an event. I went to France/Spain last year and found myself in my hotel for a large portion of it because despite all efforts I am just really bad at being out of my comfort zone, and really struggle communicating with others. Even with taking time to learn French and spanish I would sort of seize up and just speak in confused English and came across as a deer in headlights and I just dont see this improving unfortunately. And while people were very kind and understanding I then hated feeling like I was imposing and sticking out so much...just a bad mix of different emotions. I spent a large portion of my life indoors and isolated, its just hard to break past that.

Does anyone have any recommendations for good activites/restaurants that are a bit more americanized/very tourist friendly but would still help expose me to belgium?

Apologies if this comes accross as ignorant, I am really trying to work on it.

Parking GAS-BOETE

Hoi allemaal,

Ik heb een boete gekregen omdat ik te dicht bij een zebrapad geparkeerd zou hebben. Ik stond echter voor het zebrapad geparkeerd (ongeveer 2 meter voor het begin ervan). Daarnaast liep er een doorgetrokken witte streep langs het zebrapad, zonder enige onderbreking van de parkeerzone.

Hoe kan het dan verboden zijn om daar te parkeren? Dat is onmogelijk te begrijpen, zeker omdat ik zelfs vóór het zebrapad stond.

I'm a bit confused about a situation on my street.

A neighbour (a building besides mine) has recently renovated the front of their property and now parks a car in the front garden. They also installed a private "Verboden te parkeren - wordt weggesleept" sign.

the catch is that there is no dropped curb, no official road sign, and the sign itself appears to be private (he put it there last year).

Looking at Google Street View, in 2021, there was still a wall/planter that made the entrance much narrower - a car wouldn't fit and no one parked there. During renovations around 2024 the small wall surrounding the garden was removed and the current parking spot was created. I've been living here since 2021 and only last year anyone parked a car in that spot, parking on the street was always the rule.

My question is: does this automatically make the space in front of it on the public road a no-parking zone, or would the owner need a permit/recognised driveway (vergunde inrit/oprit) from the city? And how do I check it?

I ask because my girlfriend parked in front of the so-called parking spot and... the asshole had her car towed!

Childfree or childless women (35y-45y)in Antwerp interested in new friendships?

Hi everyone,

This is a bit outside my comfort zone, but I thought I'd give it a try.

I'm in my late 30s, happily married, no children and looking to connect with other women of my age or roughly 35-45 years old, in the Antwerp area who are permanently childfree/childless, whether that's by circumstance, by choice, or somewhere in between. While our stories may be different, I think we can often relate to some of the same experiences and life stages and maybe even the annoying questions or comments we often get from people. 😉 I am currently having more time then usual and I thought its the best moment to work on expanding my social circle.

Over the years, my local social circle has become very small since those friends are now focused on family life.I still have friends abroad but I do miss some local contact. I'd love to meet women who are in similar stages of life interested in building meaningful friendships and enjoy things like a good coffee, brunch, movies, concerts, or simply good conversations with a good glass of wine.

Important: I am not looking for supportgroups or any advice on where to look for as I've already tried to search for online communities but didn't find anything so far that meets my needs so that's why I'm here.( I have tried FB groups, Jointly, meet5, hetkinvrijpad and many more 🫠)
